An ERA is the Electronic Remittance Advice to providers, billers, and suppliers from Payers. Traditionally, Payers have sent providers paper checks and paper remits for payments the provider would then key into their Practice Management Software (PMS)

Today Payers are required to provide an electronic version of the remit also known as the 835. This electronic version can be automatically loaded into your Practice Management Software (PMS) or Hospital Information System (HIS) thus eliminating manual entry of the data.
